Justin Kluivert has reportedly attracted interest from Tottenham in the past but has now agreed terms with Champions League semi-finalists Roma over a summer move, according to Italian website gianlucadimarzio.com.
The Dutchman, who has 11 goals for Ajax this season, is clearly talented but his attitude is not quite right and Tottenham could use players in other roles instead.
What’s the story, then?
The Italian report claims that Kluivert, son of Dutch legend Patrick, has agreed terms with the Italian giants but a transfer fee is still up in the air.
It goes on to say that his father would like him to go to Barcelona but that the youngster is keen to follow his own path.
He will hoping that his own Italian adventure lasts longer than Kluivert senior’s did; he spent just the one season at Milan between 1997 and 1998, scoring a paltry six league goals.
Spurs should look elsewhere
Kluivert has already reportedly fumed at the Dutch giants about holding talks with Tottenham behind his back and refused to sign a new contract over it.
His agent is Mino Raiola, who is notoriously one of the most difficult agents to work with in football – which would not go down well with Daniel Levy – and has also convinced other clients such as Gianluigi Donnarumma and Romelu Lukaku to agitate for moves elsewhere previously.
On top of that, Spurs need greater pace this summer, not an assister in the Christian Eriksen mould and this transfer looks a slightly awkward fit.
If Kluivert does sign on the dotted line with Roma, it need not derail Tottenham’s summer at all.
