Danny Rose would certainly not have enjoyed waking up this morning to online criticism following his explosive interview with the Sun.
The Tottenham Hotspur left-back questioned the club’s ambition due to their failure to sign new players so far this summer.
The England international also suggested that he deserves a better wage than the reported £70,000 a week that he currently receives.
Rose also claimed that other members of the squad are not being paid what they are worth.
The controversial comments left some Spurs fans angry, with many turning their backs on the player, who has not played since November due to a knee injury.
During the interview, Rose insisted that he felt it was time to ‘voice his opinions’, but it seems that the reality has set in and now he has issued an apology, although tellingly for the timing of his remarks, not necessarily the content of them.
The statement was released on Twitter by the left-back’s representatives Base Soccer Agency.
As expected, Tottenham fans had a few responses.
